International Women’s Day (IWD), observed annually on March 8th, is one of the most significant days of the year for celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political accomplishments of women as well as raising awareness about gender equality. International Women’s Day is not limited to a particular country, community, or organization, rather is a celebration of all women represented by daughters, mothers, sisters, wives, sportswomen, leaders, and career professionals all over the world.
It is undeniable that women play an important role in bringing new life to the world, they are caring, regardless of whether they raise their voices for feminism loudly enough in the eyes of others. It is thus imperative to create a culture that demands zero-tolerance policies for workplace sexual harassment and abuse, shares domestic and care-work equally at home, and demands fair inclusion of women in boardrooms for women whose International Women’s Day would be devoid of pleasant activities, unity, and laughter; for those who are fighting for their lives; also, for those who want to set new milestones.
That will not improve by March 8, 2021, or even 2025, unless we make a daily effort to fight for women’s rights – to build an inclusive heathy society.
Facilitating Healthcare
Women have been at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19 during the difficult times of Covid-19, as front-line health-care staff, scientists, physicians, and caregivers. Women and girls as healthcare workers and innovators, testing vaccinations, developing therapies, and empowering their counterparts to be the drivers of progress in modern society.
We see positive outcomes when women take the lead. Some of the most promising and exemplary responses to the COVID-19 pandemic have been led by women. Women, especially young women, are at the forefront of global movements for social justice, climate change, and equality, both online and on the streets, in all parts of the world.
Fostering Wellbeing
Women ensure food security and climate adaptation in their societies. Despite the additional obstacles they face, these women farmers are also the custodians of traditional knowledge and guardians of natural resources in their communities. Their knowledge and expertise will help us better understand how to manage scarce resources and mitigate climate risks.
